The 11 th Awards 'Jacinto Alcaraz Mellado' tolerance, solidarity and harmony, which gives the Institute Ben Arabi Cartagena, have fallen this year in the Pharmacy of the book, an initiative of the City of Cartagena in close collaboration with other institutions and Alras the Association, as has been released through the minutes of the Jury.
La Botica del Libro, has been chosen for the originality of a project that seeks social and cultural integration of immigrants through reading, encouraging the use of different languages (Russian, English, French and Arabic), which are books written as part of its library collection and come from donations.
In this project, carried out by the Regional Centre of adult education with the Cartagena Lapuerta young group, the group's Charka of Campano and the neighborhood association of Lo Campano, assist the departments of Social Services, Culture, Youth and Women of the City of Cartagena.
The prize is worth 900 euros, provided by the Fundación Caja Murcia, and a sculpture made by PROLAM.
As Alras Association, the jury has determined to grant a second prize for the quality of 'care program for young immigrants', it is doing in Cartagena last four years, expanding computer workshops and job training to enable equal opportunities in employment and social life of young people.
Alras Association grew out of the perseverance and generosity of a group of people who started teaching Spanish to a group of African boys in the yard of an abandoned house in the wall of earth.
The award ceremony of the eleventh edition of the Awards, named Jacinto Alcaraz Mellado in tribute to the late Professor Ben Arabi IES until his death in 1996, will be held on May 27 at 11 am, in Room acts of the Conservatory of Music in Cartagena.
