The first vice president of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM) will be occupied by the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, Citizen Movement, allied with the ruling PSOE.

Deputy Mayor, Ana Belen Castejon, will be responsible for taking the mayor and vice president of the agency since June 2017.

The mayor of Lorquí, the socialist Joaquín Hernández, will occupy the presidency of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM) for this legislature to replace the former mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, the PP, which was during the last 20 years, since 1995. The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, is an association formed by municipalities and other local entities of that which voluntarily decide, in accordance with the provisions of the Spanish Constitution, the Statute of Autonomy of the Region of Murcia in the Law Regulating the Local System and the Law on Local Government of the Region of Murcia.

The purposes of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia are:

a) The promotion and defense of the autonomy of local entities.

b) The representation, defense and promotion of the interests of local authorities to the political bodies, administrative, judicial and individuals with standing to promote and be a party to any disputes affecting such interests.

c) The development and consolidation of the European spirit at the local level, based on autonomy and solidarity between Local Authorities.

d) The promotion and studies for a better understanding of the issues and the circumstances in which local life unfolds.

e) The action aimed at better functioning of public services whose characteristics are common to all local authorities.
