Disfrimur gives a truck engine to UPCT to investigate alternative fuels (29/12/2015)

Disfrimur The Spanish company dedicated to road haulage and logistics, primarily for Mercadona, the engine has delivered a firm Iveco truck department of Thermal and Fluid Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).

This engine will go to the bank of the Research Laboratory Vehicle Systems (SiVeLab) trials engines, located in the center of Development and Technological Innovation (CEDIT) UPCT which is located in the Technology Park of Fuente Alamo.

It is the engine Iveco Cursor 10 six-cylinder 450 hp and control technology pollutant emissions to meet the Euro 5 standard, this engine is the propellant of the tractor Iveco Stralis heavy vehicle freight long haul.

The collaboration between the School of Industrial UPCT and Disfrimur is aimed at developing technological innovation projects for the engines of their vehicles to operate with energy efficiency through the use of additives and new accessories, and help reduce carbon footprint through the use of alternative fuels such as natural gas and hydrogen, says researcher José Hernández Grau, Department of Thermal Engineering and Fluid.

UPCT has a test bench for heavy duty engines that form part of the Department of Energy and Propulsion Laboratory SiVeLab funded through a program of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness proceedings in technology parks (INNPLANTA) and funded by FEDER EU.

This laboratory allows researchers to perform tasks UPCT research, technological development and approval systems vehicular combustion and electric propulsion.

The test bed will be installed where the given engine is equipped with a dynamometer for up to 375 kW and 2420 Nm of torque, and allows testing of engines that consume (methane, hydrogen gaseous fuels liquid fuels (diesel) and, ...) according to emission control regulations.

The incorporation of these innovations will enable the company to have a cleaner fleet on climate change and air quality.

Disfrimur fleet of 500 vehicles are performing 60 million kilometers a year, at a rate five times round the world every day.

Disfrimur Group president, Juan J. Sanchez, said that "no technological or social progress without research, and the University latter work, which in turn requires companies to project their wealth of knowledge is concerned."

"Once the research project developed on this engine will transfer the improvements to our fleet, which we have about 400 cars of this model," he said.

"Our medium-term objective is to reach the" zero emissions ", ie be neutral in the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere," he explained.

Disfrimur is the first company Murcia recorded in the Register of Carbon Footprint of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and is certified with the highest distinction of 5 stars 'Ecostarts' of the European Union concerning the environmental commitment of companies in the sector transport.
