It has also been found sanctuary with remains of a portico, cisterns and a podium.

Entries come from that area of Isis and Sarapis, so, in the words of Noguera, we can set out the hypothesis that this is a temple of Isis and Sarapis.

It is very important to continue the process of building the archaeological history of the Roman colony of Carthago Nova finding, said the director of excavations.

José Miguel Noguera has advanced medium-term plans for the Roman Forum: In two or three years we can conclude what is expected, reaching the health center.

With the excavation of the forum area will access the heart of the former colony, where administrative, religious, judicial buildings are located.

Similarly, we will launch the Museum.

BARRIO the Roman Forum

Quarter of the Roman Forum is located at the foot of one of the five hills that delimit the peníínsula where the ancient Roman city of Carthago Nova was built.

Since 2008 is being developed in this area a comprehensive project of archaeological and urban renewal in which have recovered 2000 m² of the ancient Roman city with excellent condition: a thermal resort, built in the early first century AD, and a banquet building built in the late first century AD, who has recovered for your visit.

In this area, the first phase consists of the performance, sponsored by the City of Cartagena, through Cartagena Port of Cultures and funded by the Repsol Foundation, in which several rooms of the building were incorporated Banquet and recovery Thistle and bordering decumano entire block and joined the offer in September 2014.

Sector 2, funded by Repsol, for which has been excavated an area of about 1000 m2.

The estimated budget for this phase amounts to 940,460 euros, which the archaeological excavation, restoration and enhancement of this area is included.

These excavations have resulted in the identification of a sanctuary dedicated to Serapis and Isis oriental gods and the partial delineation of two blocks related to the urban fabric of the city.

The sanctuary is bounded by two thistles ¿streets north-sur¿ direction, one of which was reached during the current campaign, and consists of a large porticoed square dominated by a small temple of the podium is preserved and the basement access stairs.

In addition, three chapels in the north porch that would be related to the worship and rituals performed in the temple, one of which is amortized in the final phase of the building by a hydraulic structure associated with the mediator building, whose interpretation it is currently working.

Covered the floor of the arcaded square, they have identified three tanks, preserved in full, that could be related to the worship of the deity whose excavation has yet to be made.

The identification of the sanctuary with the temple of Serapis and Isis is due to the discovery in 2009 of an inscription dedicated to these divinities, as well as the recovery in the current campaign, a sculpture in white marble fragment corresponding to a larger sculpture natural, which is very similar to the statue of Isis preserved in the Capitoline Museums in Rome.

The configuration of the sanctuary Pinwheel Insula II is very similar to the temples of Baelo Claudia (Cáádiz), Pompeii and Ostia (Italy), also dedicated to these oriental gods, reinforcing the hypothesis currently proposed.

This project is part of a proposal that seeks to recover an area of 4000 square meters, in which the Curia the forum of the city, on which there is a building that has retained its ground floor to place the Museo del Barrio would be included the Roman Forum, funded entirely by the Repsol Foundation for a total amount, including steps already taken by 4,149,755 euros.
