A student at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has managed to put his Master's Thesis Project on the activity and presence of major hotel chains in social networks among the 8 best studies on tourism in Spain.

Claudia Giraldo so called student, presented the work to the contest 'Redintur TFM Awards 2015-2015', which recognizes the academic excellence of students who have completed Master's Thesis.

In total 36 studies of different Spanish universities they were presented, but only chose the best eight, one UPCT.

The work of Giraldo, who has led the professor in the department of Quantitative Methods and Computer Sciences Faculty of Business, Soledad Martínez, deals with the activity of the chains and the tourism websites of the different regions in the networks social.

For this we have measured the behavior and activity of tourist marks 11 autonomous communities and 117 hotel chains.

Giraldo ensures that 100% of said chains have a presence in at least one social network and tourism brands that have level of activity is that of Valencia, Cantabria and the Canary Islands, while hotel chains stand Paradores, Lopesan Hotel Group and GF Hotels.

The study finds that the most used social networks are Facebook and Twitter, with a presence of the chains of 93.16% in the first, and 91.45% in the second.

Furthermore, the student recommended tourism companies use social networks.

"Although an economic investment to implement them in the hotels are not required if an investment of time is required because the contents must be updated every day," he stated.

It also says it is "important" to choose the social network suitable for the hotel, because "not all are suitable for publishing existing content in them or are directed to the target audience is sought".

For her, these establishments should have a Community Manager to be responsible for managing the content of social networks respond to comments, complaints, questions and interact with the user.

"The quality of the published content is essential, because if it is of interest, you may reach the target audience and that could influence the buying decision," he adds.
