The Department of Social Services also fighting poverty (16/10/2015)

On the morning of Thursday October 15 different events to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty they took place.

These include the Institutional Declaration for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, adopted at the plenary session of the Regional Assembly unanimously

The Plenary of the Regional Assembly adopted on the morning of Thursday October 15, an Institutional Declaration for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, unanimously by all the parliamentary groups, to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty , commemorated on Saturday 17 October.

The Department of Social Services added to the various events held yesterday, defending the fight against poverty and social exclusion.

The approved text reflects the increase in inequality that has been noting, reveals that l crisis has hit hardest and hardness to the most disadvantaged social groups (people at the threshold of poverty, homelessness, Roma minority, immigrants, people with addictions and people with disabilities, among other groups) and the middle class, explaining the weakness of social policies implemented so far, as they have failed to halt the spread of poverty and reduce social inequality.

Institutional Statement on Poverty and Exclusion has been approved to more than 200 representatives of different social groups and the City of Cartagena, which have concluded that, for the first time has been obtained unanimous political commitment to reduce high levels of poverty that beset society today.

At the door of the Regional Assembly, to several members of different political groups, there has been reading a manifesto of the EAPN (Red Social Institutions to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion) in which it stressed that, about 28% of the population of the Murcia region is living in poverty, and 34% are at risk of social exclusion and promoting new demanding public policies that put an end to this situation.

These requests include the increase of 15% of the minimum wage, increasing the basic income of insertion and that the right to housing is considered a fundamental right. They have also requested that just helps for rent are established and that banks believe public housing and prepag card or basic services such as electricity and water in which the minimum consumption is guaranteed.

The City of Cartagena, represented by the Councillor for Social Services and Social Mediation, Carmen Martin del Amor, and the coordinator of the council, Damian Perez Olmos, have been present in both the Institutional Act Parliamentary Declaration and reading EAPN Manifesto.

Those acts have also attended several municipal technicians in the departments of Immigration, Housing, Drug Addiction and Persons with Disabilities, they depend on numerous actions and initiatives for the purposes set.
