The Social Services explains the steps in receiving refugees (07/10/2015)

The Councillor for Social Services, Carmen Martin, held a meeting informative afternoon yesterday with social care institutions, they have been doing integration work and acceptance of immigrants in Cartagena.

The purpose of the meeting was to convey information to the groups that the city has regarding the refugee issue.

The city of Cartagena is integrated with a dozen other locations in the Intercultural Cities Network of Spain, and offered to the Government of Spain as a place of welcome, showing solidarity, tolerant and multicultural character of the city.

On the other hand, Carmen Martin told the audience what s steps taken by the local Executive to date, such as the Governing Board agreement for accession to the Inter Cartagena Network of Cities of hosting refugees, or the various meetings with the Autonomous Region for the exchange of information and visits to various local regional ownership that exist in the municipality, and that could be used as accommodation for refugees.

The councilor explained that the Council of Ministers approved a Royal Decree that regulates the direct granting of a subsidy to entities such as the Spanish Red Cross, the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR) and the Spanish Catholic Migration Association (ACCEM).

These entities are responsible for carrying out all formalities as well as mediate and report the different with the different administrations to facilitate the arrival of refugees in Spain. In particular, in Cartagena, ACCEM and Red Cross are responsible for ensuring this objective .

During the meeting it was possible to show that the city of Cartagena will be in contact with both entities to encourage the most dynamic and fluid potential collaboration and, among other things, train public employees, not just in rights and duties of refugees but in appropriate strategies to address the situation.
