The international team competition in automotive engineering challenges involved UPCT Racing Team from Tuesday in the new edition of Formula Student Spain.

They will measure the performance of your new car against 70 teams from as many universities around the world.

The thirty students from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) that are part of this team have developed over the past two years, a motor racing car for the first time, electric.

"During the first stage we design the entire automotive systems and components for the following carry out the construction, testing and commissioning of the prototype," explains team captain Daniel Gomariz.

I calculated the new vehicle having spent more than 21,000 hours of effort.

The purpose of each of the successive editions of this project is to create from scratch a car car for prestigious international competition Formula SAE / Formula Student, which is the largest competition, complexity and level of demand that exists worldwide for engineering students.

In the previous edition of Formula Student Spain with the participation of the UPCT Racing Team, students from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena remained in fourth place.

"The excellent results achieved in each edition of this prestigious international competition, placed at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) as a clear leader worldwide in the field of engineering studies, among the best universities in the United States, Germany, UK, Italy and Japan, "says Patricio Franco, the researcher who coordinates the team.

"Through this demanding international competition, students get an extraordinary experience for their training as future engineers and learn about teamwork while in contact with various companies and the labor market," notes the teacher.

Proof of this are the numerous former members of the team who are working in the automotive industry.

"Students work in this exciting initiative aimed at improving vocational training, with the help of many teachers, laboratory technicians and staff across the University, with the support of the Rectoral Team and the direction of the School of Industrial as well as numerous sponsors and collaborators without whom this project would not be possible, "recalls Franco.
