Try the garbancillo Tallante be declared 'Plant 2016' (05/08/2015)

The LIFE + project for the "Conservation of Astragalus nitidiflorus in their habitat potential of the Region of Murcia" Agricultural School UPCT has proposed that garbancillo Tallante be declared 'Plant 2016'.

This species, endangered, competes with the dragon tree of Gran Canaria, fern shade, Silene of Ifach and heather Andévalo.

To achieve this declaration is necessary to participate in the vote "Animal | Plant of the Year 2016", which will remain open until September 25 on the web http://losporquesdelanaturaleza.com/animal-planta-del-ano-2016/.

The vote is anonymous and without prior registration, says the professor of Plant Production UPCT, Juan Jose Martinez.

"If we get the remains Tallante garbancillo first, this award will result in wider dissemination and outreach at the national level, bringing to society the knowledge of this legume species that lives on volcanic lands of the Campo de Cartagena", adds Professor .

The garbancillo Tallante is an endemic plant that lives exclusively in the Campo de Cartagena.

After having been missing for 95 years, it was rediscovered in 2004 to form part of the identity of stocks Tallante and the ports of Santa Barbara.

Through the LIFE11 / project BIO / ES / 727 "Conservation of Astragalus nitidiflorus in their habitat potential in the region of Murcia", which began in 2012 and will run until June 2016, aims to restore and preserve the Garbancillo Tallante Astragalus nitidiflorus in Murcia, thus ensuring long-term survival of this species.
