The campaign against the heat wave reaches over nine thousand older (08/07/2015)

The heat wave is hitting the city of Cartagena for a few days so the Department of Social Services City has launched an information campaign against this wave of heat that more than 9,000 people over 65 has reached ago years.

The Councillor for Social Services and Social Mediation, Maria del Carmen Martín del Amor, has informed about this campaign is being conducted through the municipal tele-assistance services and home help, and through

a series of lectures in summer courses and information that we have placed on the website of the City of Cartagena.

As the mayor said, people over 65 and children are the most vulnerable so it has moved some tips to protect yourself from calo:

TIPS FROM THE HEAT

Avoid leaving home between 12 pm and 6 pm.

Drinking more liquids, without waiting to be thirsty.

Avoid heavy meals.

Better take vegetables and fruits and eat less and more times a day.

Not abuse alcohol.

Reduce physical activity.

Rest often in the shade.

Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen creams.

Stay in ventilated or conditioners.

Blinds closed during the day and close the windows.

Open them at night for ventilation.

Keep food in the fridge and always monitor the hygienic conservation measures.

What effect excess heat?

Cramps loss of salts.

Exhaustion, malaise, headache, nausea, vomiting, extreme thirst.

Dehydration, weakness and feeling of prostration.

Heatstroke: nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing and hot skin, increased body temperature above 40 degrees, unsteady gait, dizziness and may reach seizures and coma.

Older and disabled people.

People with chronic diseases (hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, alcoholism).

People who perform heavy physical work or sport outdoors when there are high temperatures.
