The UPCT highlights its defense of sustainable development (20/04/2015)

The days I Economy and Sustainable Development bring together experts in economics, environment, urban development and agriculture around the concept of sustainability and commitment for economic growth linked to environmental respect and social inclusion

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) commitment to economic growth associated with respect for the environment.

This has been evident during the inauguration of the first days of Economy and Sustainable Development, held this week at the Faculty of Business.

The vice president of Infrastructure, Equipment and Sustainability, José Pérez, has indicated that this part of the subscription commitment by the University to the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development.

"The UPCT supports this statement be working for sustainable development, promoting research in this area and adapt our facilities to make the most environmentally friendly," said Perez.

In presenting this conference, which will run until next Thursday and will conclude on Friday with a visit to the company headquarters Sabic and Repsol, the director of the conference, Miguel Angel Tobarra, stressed that the aim of this activity is "to explain to society that the only possible growth model is one that respects the values ​​of sustainability".

Repsol, building sustainability

The first presentation has been made by the Director of Corporate Responsibility at Repsol, Eduardo Garcia, who explained over a hundred people, the sustainability project in which is involved the Spanish multinational.

García has emphasized the challenges facing the energy sector to achieve growth that protects and respects the environment worldwide.

This event brings together experts in economics, environment, urban development and agriculture around the concept of sustainability and commitment to economic growth linked to environmental respect and social inclusion.

The program of this conference includes participation as speakers of directors of Industry, Tourism, Enterprise and Innovation, and Agriculture and Water, Juan Carlos Ruiz and Adela Martinez-Cache, respectively.

In addition, it will end with a visit to the site of the multinational Sabic, in La Aljorra (Cartagena) and Repsol refinery in tailings.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor for Student and University Extension, Francisco Martínez;

the vice president of Infrastructure, Equipment and Sustainability, José Pérez, and the director of the conference, Miguel Angel Tobarra.
