The notarial sixteenth century will be restored and digitized (02/12/2014)

The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, will participate on Wednesday, December 3, at the presentation that agreement in which different entities for restoration, study and digitization of notarial records of the Region of Murcia, including Cartagena involved the sixteenth century.

In particular it is an agreement with the Autonomous Region, the University of Murcia, the Chamber of Notaries of Murcia and various municipalities, which has been promoted by the General Archive of the Region of Murcia, current custodian of the documents that reach more than one Century of antiquity.

District of Cartagena there are about 1,416 volumes for the years 1558 to 1858. The Protocols of the sixteenth century, the oldest and interesting, are generally in poor condition and some at risk of irreversible degradation.

The presentation will take place at 11 am at the Regional Archives in Murcia, including a subsequent visit to the facilities in which they carry out the restoration and digitization.

As explained sources of the Municipal Archives of Cartagena the importance of notarial protocols for social and economic history of our city is extraordinary.

In fact it is the most valuable source for such studies, because at that time all kinds of economic transactions and personal and family issues were recorded.

The agreement also allow conservation offer the possibility of consulting through copies in the Municipal Archives of Cartagena.
