The researcher Cajamar Chair UPCT Agrifood Cooperatives, Gustavo Marcos Matas received the award for the best doctoral thesis Cajamar-University Chair in Social Economy Research.
The work "Relational aspects in the social base of agricultural marketing cooperatives: Effects on the willingness of partners to invest and the performance of the cooperative" argues that agribusiness cooperatives have great potential to compete in the current environment.
Gustavo Marcos, which is this Monday at the University of Bologna as a postdoctoral fellow, argues that agri-cooperatives to improve their competitiveness, managers should encourage the commitment of their partners, their market orientation and adequately manage the entry of new members and their heterogeneity.
The dissertation, defended by Gustavo Marcos last January at the University of Murcia, was unanimously highest rating, suitable cum laude and the mention of European Doctor.
The court, composed of experts from the universities of Murcia, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Valladolid, Bologna and the largest CEO Anecoop, horticultural coooperativa of Spain, leader in the marketing of fruits and vegetables.
The court assessed the scientific rigor of the thesis and the importance of the topic and the conclusions for the management of agri-cooperatives.
The thesis has been awarded $ 1,000 for the author and another 1,000 euros to its directors, Narciso Arcas, director of the Cooperative Chair Cajamar Agroalimentqario UPCT and Miguel Hernández University of Murcia.
The award ceremony took place during the celebration of the International Workshop 'New business models in the agrifood cooperative', recently held at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
For the director of Cajamar-UPCT Chair, the award is an encouragement to young researchers scholarships from this chair.
