The Mandarache Project, National Prize for the Promotion of Reading 2014 (09/09/2014)

The Mandarache Draft Cartagena and the Spanish edition of the magazine Letras Libres were awarded today to the National Development Award to the corresponding 2014 Reading This national award, granted by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, aims recognize the invaluable role that different people and institutions can play in promoting reading habit.

The Mandarache Project has been selected in the category of Natural Person or Legal for its comprehensive concept of broadcasting as a reading initiative developed by citizens, especially young people, to make reading an everyday celebration.

The Project ( www.premiomandarache.es ) is a set of events promoting reading, taking place since 2004, aiming to become critical and participatory citizens and involving the whole city, so the number of people registering (26,000) as the active collaboration of entities.

The mayor, Pilar Barreiro, is shown proudly by this award, that comes to acknowledge the work done for years.

For the mayor it is one of the most important projects is the city of Cartagena and has grown prominently in recent times.

For the mayor it is the most democratic award because it involves all students in Cartagena who read the books and choose the winners.

The Spanish edition of the magazine Letras Libres has been awarded in the category of Media, being a magazine that has managed to generate a fruitful dialogue between the Spanish and Latin American cultural world, based on the different registers of thought and creation.

Letras Libres ( www.letraslibres.com ) is a magazine that has been published since 1999 and is the heir to the magazine Vuelta de Octavio Paz.

It has two paper editions in Mexico and Spain.

The jury was chaired by Teresa Lizaranzu, Director General of Policy and Cultural Rights and the Book of Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports Industries, and Mónica Fernández, deputy director general of Promotion of Books, Reading and Spanish Literature, has served as vice president .

Other members of the jury were the winners in 2013, Roberto Soto representing Association of Professional Mobile Library (ACLEBIM) and Sergio Vila-Sanjuan representing Robert Culture / Cultural Journal Supplement s-La Vanguardia;

José Manuel Fernández Ruiz, by the Federation of Associations of Journalists in Spain (FAPE);

María Angeles Bermejo, by the Federation of Radio and Television of Spain;

Magdalena Suarez for Feminist Research Institute of the Complutense University of Madrid;

and Fernando Iwasaki, by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
