New aid UPCT high level sports (28/08/2014)

High-level athletes studying at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena next year will enjoy a sports program of the Vice President for Student and University Extension to combine their sport and college.

The Social Council approved the new edition, which provides a scholarship with financial aid, grants college dorm, academic advantages like being able to choose her, to have the support of a faculty mentor and flexible exam dates.

14 students have benefited in the last year of this program.

From 2005 it was launched, more than fifty young people from different Spanish regions have successfully developed a dozen sports.

Among the results, university 9 medals gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze medals in different international, national championships and Olympic Games.

The most brilliant achievements, the Olympic gold in London 2012 and a student bringing the Cordoba Football Club to the first division this season.

Students wishing to be admitted to the program must process it through the Sports Service throughout the academic year.

Students who have enjoyed the Male Athlete Program College Level (DANU) UPCT have participated in different modalities such as swimming, athletics, life guards, taekwondo, sailing, table tennis, football, basketball, handball and football.

For centers have benefited from this program 15 students from the School of Mines Road, 11 Faculty of Business, Industrial 10, 9 Naval Turismo 3, 3 and 2 in Agronomist Teleco.

The Vice Chancellor for Student and University Extension, Francisco Martínez, highlights the support provided by UPCT college athletics.

"Without this program many young people would be excluded from the university system, as they could not reconcile the dedication it requires high-level sport with dedication to college," he says.

In fact, many young people have been able to have a college degree and training at the end of his career thanks to this initiative.

The Vice President is looking for ways to expand this program to reach more athletes, according to Martinez.
