Cartagena inherit the historical legacy of Cartagena José María Jover (27/08/2014)

The mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and the widow of the historian José María Jover, Guadalupe Gómez-Ferrer, signed this morning at the Palace the transfer agreement the City of Cartagena personal library of this illustrious Cartagena.

About 15,000 works that comprise this collection will form part of the Municipal Archives to go when you die the wife of favorite son of this city.

This library will be of great use to students of this subject, as well as for those who want to dive into the history of Spain, explained Wednesday the first mayor, also accompanied by the Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero, and the coordinator of Files Libraries and the City, Cayetano Tornel.

The mayor also stressed the importance, in addition to the volume, the quality of this collection is an example of the ability to change Jover research models. In the future this library, as also noted Barreiro, be part of the Archive in which the legacy of Alberto Colao is also found, among others.

Meanwhile, the widow, wrapped this morning by her children, her husband confessed excited would be happy to know that the library has invested both be in Cartagena, a city that has always been in his heart and in his work.

Art, literature and history are part of this personal library, widow Jover highlighting some of his works as the PhD of Cartagena in 1947, through which he received the National Prize for Literature;

his last publication on the history of Spain in which different specialists involved in the matter;

and a piece that was reissued last year collecting everything written about Cartagena and Murcia.

José María Jover, master historians, is considered one of the great innovators of historiography in our country.

Valencia and Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, was a specialist in modern and contemporary history, and culture and the Spanish civilization.

In life you were given awards and distinctions, including of Son of Cartagena and the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia.
