Social Policy are intended more than 5.5 million to serve 120 users Canteras Disability Center in Cartagena (18/07/2014)

The Minister of Health and Social Policy underlines the commitment of the regional government to improve services and provide comprehensive care tailored to the needs of each user

The Ministry of Health and Social Policy, through the Directorate General of Persons with Disabilities of Murcia Institute of Social Action (IMAS), 5,583,610 euros intended to offer 120 seats at the Center for Disability Quarries in Cartagena.

Of these, 40 are in the Service Center and Day 80 in residential care.

Responsible for Health and Social Policy, Catalina Lorenzo visited today by the Managing Director of IMAS, Leopoldo Navarro, and other members of his team Disability Center Canteras.

On this visit, I met with workers and users of the center.

The Center for Disability Canteras, operating since 1977, is currently located in the trough, where the new center will be built, given the impossibility of reform and expansion of the former, and ten professionals working in it.

The center's staff is composed of physicians, nursing professionals, specialists in social work and technical education and speech which can provide specialized and personalized attention to each of the users.

This center serves people aged between 19 and 65 years, most of them from the town of Cartagena, who have severe mental disabilities and in some cases also have physical impairment and / or associated behavioral disorders.

The main areas of work in the Day Center include the Basal Program and Multisensory Stimulation, Cognitive Stimulation Program, the Program of Alternative Communication, Physical Exercise Programme and Programme of Leisure and Recreation.

The residence has 44 rooms, which occupy four modules, and its purpose is to provide assistance and care and occupational therapy as well as personal and social adjustment treatments.

The Minister appreciated the work done by all professionals in this center and the promotion holding for users to participate and get involved in the activities organized by the Centre, for example, the Summer Holiday Program.

Caring for people with disabilities

The Minister of Health and Social Policy stressed the commitment of the regional executive and through collaboration with different associations and bodies to improve services and provide comprehensive care tailored to the needs of people with disabilities and their families.

The IMAS has seven centers themselves in different parts of the region intended for what this year more than 28 million, to provide almost 600 places in day centers and residences.

Also, other services are provided and maintained concerts worth almost 40 million euros to assist 16,756 people in the autonomous region suffering disabilities, offering a place at a day center, in a home or in sheltered housing, for example .

On the other hand, working with the federations and associations for which 4.5 million euros so they can continue to provide various services and implementing care programs are intended to disability.

In total, more than 74 million euros to assist people with disabilities through residential places in day centers and the various services offered by the associations and organizations.
