The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, told the court his resignation to pursue legal action against the president of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations, Leandro Sanchez, after he has requested a public apology, have removed the offending text of his Facebook page and Commissioner declared that he had no intent to threaten.
Barreiro denounced the publication of that text to the police that after taking statements from Leandro Sanchez moved the matter to the police court.
The Court of Instruction Number Four had already set a date for holding Fouls Trial for alleged threats.
The mayor has publicly accepted the apology expressed by the President of the Federation of Residents and waiver of legal action because he trusts that this decision may help to moderate the public debate on the issues of the city.
Barreiro recalled that "when the arguments are replaced by the personal disqualification debate becomes impossible. Those who have public responsibilities of any kind are required to lead by example and work for freedom of expression people always exercise on respect and difference of opinion. "
The mayor added that his government will continue to take the decisions it deems best for Cartagena and Cartagena, "We can understand the reasons for each, but our obligation is to defend the interests of the majority and will continue demanding for us the same respect we have for each other. "
