A park with native flowers to La Manga. (07/03/2014)

The Association of Southeast Naturalist driving the transformation of the whole area remains undeveloped in Monte Blanco (La Manga) in a park with native flowers, tripling recovered during 2013 from a collaboration with the city of Cartagena surface.

This Friday, the City of Cartagena machines have begun preliminary work to expand the restoration of Mont Blanc, La Manga, in a performance that will create a large green area with native flora species, some of them threatened and / or endangered, with an approximate area of ​​20,000 m2.

The action continues and extends considerably (12,000 m2) project developed during 2013 by Anse and the City (7,000 m2) in the south face of Mont Blanc, where after the start of the acacias invading sands and the withdrawal of many tire and another lot of garbage, we proceeded to the introduction of several hundred copies of native species such as juniper dunes, mastic trees, palmettos, sea daisies, or juniper dunes extinct among others.

The efforts anse before the Heritage Service of the City of Cartagena has allowed to confirm that the entire area is undeveloped in Monte Blanco (approx. 20,000 m2) is owned by the City of Cartagena for years, without having been raised so far no action greening the same, despite the high urban density of La Manga.

Currently, about 2/3 of the undeveloped area of ​​Mount Blanc, on its southern side, is mostly occupied by an invading species, acacia, and in some rubble and debris of various kinds points.

The City of Cartagena proceed in the coming weeks to the gradual withdrawal of acacias and accumulated waste in the area, as a prelude to the planting of native vegetation by anse from the nursery managed in Cartagena.

To plants of drip irrigation system will be equipped to ensure their survival in the first year, then removing it to allow natural development as rainfall.

It is also planned to build an interpretive trail that links the east and west slopes of Mont Blanc, and allow a public regulated use of an area of ​​outstanding scenic and geological interest.

Removal of exotic plants and garbage will be conducted by the city of Cartagena, the production and planting of native plants will be performed by the Association, thanks in part to the collaboration of the Biodiversity Foundation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and confirmation of financial support from the Directorate General of Environment design of a trail revegetation and other work is pending.
