Throughout the day expert researchers from the School of Agronomists have exposed more than 90 participants enrolled in the Second Technical Conference on the Conservation of Tallante Garbancillo (Astragalus nitidiflorus), only species worldwide and critically endangered extinction, advances in knowledge about the species obtained in the last year.

At 9 am the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Jose Antonio Franco, and director of the School of Agricultural Engineering, Alejandro Pérez Pastor, presented the conference, aimed at environmental managers of public administrations, companies relating to the environment, researchers, foresters and students and masters degrees related to the conservation of biodiversity, thanking them for their assistance to participants and encouraging researchers to continue generating knowledge and providing the information necessary for the conservation of such an iconic species like this.

Next, researchers from the School of Agricultural and experts from the Directorate General for the Environment in our region involved in the development of the LIFE + project for the conservation of Garbancillo Tallante in their natural habitat, they have reviewed the status of the actions are underway to prevent the disappearance of the species, from drafting a recovery plan for the species and plan habitat management to the introduction of new strains on own volcanic terrains habitat of the species bred in the experimental farm nursery school agronomists.

To perform these introductions has been instrumental collaboration of the owners of the affected land, which by agreement with the Company for Land Stewardship conservation Garbancillo Tallante (ECUGA), chaired by Joan Butler, which allowed the plantations in some of their farms.
