Carthaginians and Romans taught the history of Cartagena (21/02/2014)

Under the II International Congress of Educational Innovation 2014, organized by the University of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the Festival of Carthaginians and Romans introduced the Bona Mens innovation project for history teaching.

Nestor Jorge Giuliodoro and Jorge Castillo, officers of the Federation troops and legions, and Pedro Huertas, archaeologist Historiae Domenica company, are the authors this educational project that takes its name from the Roman goddess who protected the "right-thinking" and that in the year 215 BC, a temple was dedicated in Capitol Hill for being the mythological representation of thought, consciousness and the mind.

The overall project objective is to facilitate innovation and improve the quality of teaching history, replacing traditional teaching practices focused on memorization new approaches - including innovative methodologies to promote critical thinking and deep understanding of the History-that promote the acquisition of knowledge and development skills and digital cross along with other skills that are important for the preparation of a generation of young people who actively participate as "citizens of the century".

The teaching of history contributes to the construction of identity and, therefore, in schools should be a powerful resource for motivation and capacity for abstract thought and creativity, and usually beyond the traditional passive role played by the student.

Based on the new model of learning project creators Bona Mens employ the Second Punic War, evoking annual Festival of Carthaginians and Romans, as a historical fact that can be addressed with various ICT tools and resources and Social Learning Emotional (stories, games, drama, laughter therapy) to motivate students of different educational levels to understand the present through history.

Since 2011, the project authors designed and evaluated the following educational programs in the Intercultural Center of the City of Cartagena, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, institutes Isaac Peral, San Isidoro and Ben Arabi; school poet Antonio Oliver and Museums Archaeological Municipal, Teatro Romano and ARQVA:

Learn Programme, fun, Create and Revive Your Story for primary pupils, secondary and high schools.

Program Your City Stories for students and ESO.

Archaeologists for a Day Program for Infant and Primary students.

During this school year, motivated by the significant improvements in participation, motivation, collaboration, learning and reflection of students who were identified as most important when evaluating the results of Bona Mens project benefits, the authors will launch new educational programs focused on the acquisition of digital skills to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Festival of Carthaginians and Romans.
