Family businesses detect a turning point in the economic situation and expected to continue improving (24/01/2014)

85% of companies maintain or improve their export figures and 76% does the same in terms of number of employees

Family businesses already see signs of recovery.

The ultimate barometer prepared by the Chair of Family Business and Murcia Association of Family Enterprise (Amefmur) and presented at the Faculty of Business at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, said a turning point in the economic situation as for the first time in four years, companies do not believe that this semester has been worse before.

In fact, two out of three believe that their situation is the same or has improved and most expect this trend to continue for the next semester.

The study, which analyzes the reality of a group that represents 85% of the business that generates 70% of GDP in the Region of Murcia, shows a positive trend in all variables.

85% of companies maintain or improve their export figures and 76.1% do the same in terms of number of employees.

It also highlights that 23% of companies have improved their sales in the last six months, reaching 40% expect to do that in the next.

All these data lead to the Index of Business Confidence of the Region of Murcia and family businesses up 13 points to our community in fourth place in the national scene.

The recovery in demand continues to capitalize the concerns of 81% of the companies but with a decrease of 11 points in one year.

Next in importance is the funding difficulties (45%) and competitive pressure (45%).

As for its internal functioning, greater efforts are made on cost control and quality, while still paying close attention to the economic situation and job creation.

The Barometer has also made a strategic analysis of activity of family businesses showing a decrease in the number of customers of 43.6% over the past 5 years.

Fundamentally collective response has focused on launching new products (46.4%) and access to new markets (36.1%).

For the next 5 years is expected to net customer growth of 40.4%, mainly opting to increase the number of alliances as a means of growth.

In addition, during the crisis period, 55% of companies have increased the level of family involvement and improved professionalization of family managers (40.9%).

Also important is the group of companies that has used specialized consultants (45.5%) and those that have adopted corporate governance tools (20%).

The barometer results were obtained after performing 112 personal interviews with family businesses the most representative of the regional economic fabric.
