UPyD Cartagena proposes a decrease of Property Tax (12/07/2013)

The coordinator of Union Progress and Democracy (UPyD) in Cartagena, Fulgencio Egea, has urged the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, and the Councillor of Finance, Fatima Suanzes, to lower the IBI as the property of the municipality had a review cadastral based on high prices, which today does not correspond to the actual value in the market.

For the coordinator UPyD, you need the cadastral revision, so that the fall in prices of real estate, both rustic and urban impact on the property tax.

Currently part of an assessed value unreal, a review of the prices when they were still very high, so it has an amount unfair because if the value of the properties low, as they are doing now, you should also lower the IBI , "In other words, the neighbors would be paying more property tax for homes that are worth less."

Also noted that many people hold debts with the City for failing to pay the bill, so put in the gap of social exclusion for many citizens of Cartagena with serious economic problems for the current crisis.

Thus, Egea, has proposed to the municipal government to reduce the tax and fixed in 0.4%, placing it in the applicable minimum by law, which is reduce in half the currently implementing the City for property urban nature, and three times less than the maximum allowed by law for special nature, which imposes the Consistory applying a levy maximum of 1.3%.

"The Mayor and the government team, you can not continue to deceive the public, adjust prices to the reality of the current situation, and to fulfill its responsibility to the citizens of Cartagena can cope with the crisis" has concluded Fulgencio Egea.
