The City helps young immigrants integrate into their neighborhoods (22/05/2013)

The councilors of Social, Employment and Youth, visit on Thursday to students of Our Lady of Charity neighborhood involved in the project Move-T, which carries out activities to inform, teach and promote intercultural harmony

Give notions of civility, visiting places of interest in the neighborhood and even intervene practice improvement, cleaning and arranging squares of carpentry or masonry, are some of the activities included in the project MOVE-T, which manages Cartagena City Council through the Department of Social Services, Employment and Youth, and whose objective is the integration of third country nationals in the neighborhoods of the city.

Precisely the councilors responsible for these areas, Antonio Calderon, Diego Ortega and Ruth Collins, respectively, will visit on Thursday, May 23 the students of the District Our Lady of Charity who are participating in this project, meeting to be held in the social .

This is a group of 15 young people between 16 and 24 years, Arabic and Spanish nationality, who are running the active module, where the monitor imparts practical activities in the neighborhood, thereby trying to get a real environment of coexistence , communication, tolerance, social skills and a sense of belonging to the neighborhood.

In addition, this module students receive a scholarship of € 6 per day of attendance.

MOVES-T is a project granted by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security through the Office of Migration to the city of Cartagena, aimed at young immigrant neighborhoods of the municipality.

The actions planned in the project have a duration of two months and a half in each of the selected districts, which stand out for their high percentage of nationals in third countries, such as Dolores, La Palma, Slum Lady of Charity and The aljorra.

The project has a budget of 80,000 euros, and the grant of 60,000 euros, giving the city the rest.

The project activities are aimed at providing young immigrants of the information and knowledge necessary for their promotion and social integration by fostering coexistence in the neighborhoods and multiculturalism.

The project, which began in February and will end on December 31, and has been implemented in the Dolores and La Palma, and for the month of September due to start in the Aljorra activities.
