Clothes, toys and household items, major intrusion in the yellow containers (22/05/2012)

Information campaigns that the City, along with the recycler Ecoembes have been carried out to sensitize the public on the need for separate collection of garbage in favor of environmental care are paying off, recycling is in fashion , but more needs to be done.

Whether through neglect, in some cases, or ignorance, in others, the fact is that there are still costs us classify materials as reflected in data sampling Ecoembes has made in early 2012 in the municipality of Cartagena, analyzing the garbage is disposed of in yellow containers of light packaging.

This sample shows the high rate of inappropriately textile clothing and throws herself into the yellow bins, followed by plastics that are not containers, toys, household items (bowls, buckets, trays), beach items (mattresses, chairs , buckets), plastic parts of automobiles and appliances, blinds, tapers, which appear very frequently between the deposited materials.

Thus, in the sample on 26th of January, of the 250 kilos of material analyzed in the yellow bins, 178 kilos (71%) was the requested material, ie, light packaging, while 73 kilos (29 %) was inappropriate material, noting the 24 kilos of plastic packaging that is not (9.79%) and 14.30 kilos of textiles (5.9%).

Furthermore, also slipped paper (5.25% unfit).

Similar figures were considered in the following samples, taken on 31 January and 10 March, although the latter was detected a decrease in the percentage of paper found, only 0.25%.

The percentage of unfit stood in all cases above the regional average, calculated at 19.6%.

All this has led the City Council and Ecoembes to prepare an information campaign that includes talks in neighborhood associations and which will focus on materials to be deposited in the yellow bins, containers exclusively, reviewing, in turn, that all containers are properly screen printed with the message of what to shoot at each (Rest, only plastic bottles, cans and cartons, only cartons and paper, and the same for others, such as clothing or oil)
