Cartagena has a new play area thanks to the environmental recovery of the Rambla de Canteras (11/05/2012)

Quarry has a new space for use and enjoyment of the neighbors due to the environmental recovery of the promenade that runs alongside the council of Cartagena, in the place of Mojuelo.

The Segura basin (CHS) has invested 1,600,300 euros in the restoration of a section of the runway of 860 meters, which has ensured its ability to drain to storm events, revegetated margins and adequate walkways and furniture recreation.

The president of the Segura basin (CHS), Miguel Angel Ródenas, today opened the improvements to the promenade, next to the mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro.

At the ceremony has taken place on delivery of the new leisure recreational area to the City for proper management and conservation.

The work is part of the collaboration agreement between the basin organization and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water regional government to develop policies to protect and regenerate the natural environment and is funded by the European Union.

The section upon which acted presented a winding route, caused by the erosive action of the current rainy season and by the action of man.

The CHS has been cleaned and removed unwanted species, to improve accessibility and promote leisure and recreational use of the promenade.

It has also been undertaken to defend the banks of the river for a controlled drainage of the avenues, and the processing of the channel slopes to prevent erosion and landslides that impede water drainage.

Other work undertaken has been the restoration of infrastructure present in the gully to integrate them into the environment, contributing to the smooth hydraulic operation and defense against floods.

Landscape integration

In addition, it has been the adaptation landscape and environmental restoration of degraded areas through landscaping of margins in urban areas, improving access to the environment for recreational use and the creation of recreational areas for games and leisure furniture, integrated while in the urban layout of the council, ensuring the use and enjoyment by neighboring quarries of the section of the avenue recovered.
