The gardens of the city will be irrigated with groundwater (11/04/2012)

The Segura basin has given the green light to City Council for the use of three wells in the Parque de la Rosa, the Cartagonova and the Garden of the Ball, whose waters are unfit for consumption, it can be used for maintenance of green areas

The City, through the Municipal Services Parks and Gardens Infrastructure Rhea has gone a step further in its policy of promoting environmental conservation processing of surveys for the marginal use of groundwater for irrigation of parks and gardens.

As explained municipal sources, there are areas likely to have groundwater exploitation; waters, resulting not yet suitable for the supply, are valid for irrigation of green areas and in particular for shrubs and trees.

Thus, in collaboration with Aquagest Murcia, the City has obtained the agreement, by the Segura River Basin for the use of resources and the Directorate General of Mines to the polls three wells, which will allow the capture groundwater in large gardens in the municipality, such as the Parque del Campo de la Rosa, the Park and garden BIC Cartagonova the Garden of the balls.

Thanks to such licenses are already using water from the well of the Park de la Rambla, green area in the vicinity of Cartagonova, and the Garden of the balls, while in the park of Campo de la Rosa have been completed probes and is awaiting installation of the lift system.

In total, the authorized rate exceeds 13,000 cubic meters per year, which is estimated may involve more than half the water needed for the maintenance of these three parks.

This action, which has seen nearly two and a half years of paperwork, the Department of Infrastructure-as indicated in charge of à rea, Francisco Espejo, opens a way to promote and encourage similar actions in the medium term in the rest of gardens of the city, thus fulfilling a commitment municipal environmental sustainability, according to the provisions of Law 6/2006 on increased saving and conservation measures on water consumption in the Autonomous Community of Murcia.

According to the councilman, in the light of an expected shortage of resources available to the drought, and for the sake of the Environment, of course take advantage of a still untapped resource in Cartagena, water with some degree of salinity of groundwater, which could be abundant in the municipality and that, while not suitable for drinking, it can and should be used without problems in the irrigation of public gardens.

In this sense it is planned to study all the possibilities to apply for new permits to the Watershed Organization for marginal water use in urban and county councils, as they could be Alumbres, El Algar and Urbanization Mediterranean.
