Some 30,000 people work in volunteer programs in the region (24/10/2011)

'I want to help and do not know how' is the phrase that can not be repeated among Spanish youth.

With that idea came Universitour project, which runs from February touring the universities of our country to promote volunteerism in the field of university students.

Cartagena is the fifth stop on Universitour d this morning has been presented in the House of the Polytechnic University student, attended by university students, volunteers and partners throughout the region.

In the Community, between 25,000 and 30,000 people working in volunteer programs, as reported by the Director General of Social Affairs and Immigration Equality, Leopoldo Navarro, who has attended the inauguration.

The inauguration was also attended by the Vice Chancellor for Student and University Extension, Francisco Martín Martínez, and the promoters of the initiative Universitour which are: the president of Spain Volunteer Platform (EVP), Luciano Poyato, the president of the Foundation Cibervoluntarios, Yolanda Rueda, Secretary General of the CREUP (Coordinator of Student Representatives of public universities), María José Romero, with the president of the Platform of volunteers from the region of Murcia, Roberto Barcelo and the president of the Platform for Volunteers Shire of Cartagena and Maria Natividad Abengochea.

University students are the group most commonly involved in supportive programs, showing that college is more than just a place for study and research, said the Vice Chancellor UPCT students, Francisco Martin. The integral formation of the person and complete college with these voluntary actions, says Martin.

Universitour born in the European Year of Volunteering, with financial support from the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality and the collaboration of the Ministry of Education.

The goal is to raise awareness, information and training on volunteering to young people who are studying in universities in Spain, as well as about the world of NGOs.

Cartagena is the fifth largest city, after Santander, Cordoba, Valencia and Salamanca, which presented this project, which is scheduled to close at the end of the year at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
