The UPCT patented a filter that reduces interference to satellites in space (07/10/2011)

The Technical University of Cartagena has a concession of the patent for a filter to eliminate interference in the space satellites.

The work was conducted by researchers at Applied Electromagnetism Group on Telecommunications, Higher Technical School of Telecommunication Engineering.

The invention is a novel type of low-pass filter, which reduces interference with satellites in space and allows working with much higher powers in the transmission of data, explains Pedro Vera, one of the four researchers who have developed the patented filter.

The main application of the filter is focused on improving data transmission via satellite.

"Filter the signals to frequency, with a low-pass filter called using a circular pole technology," says Vera.

Among the advantages of the new filter is that having fewer edges, the model reduces interference caused by high power transmissions.

In addition, this system has more durability than those used today, which is important since satellites require systems that are not replaceable to be sailing through space.

The tests have been conducted in the laboratory of the School of Telecommunications.

In addition measures are being made in the European Space Agency, according to Alejandro Alvarez Melcón, responsible investigator.

The new patented structure may be used in future communications satellites, where the level of power is handled is very high.

In fact, researchers are working with UPCT European Space Agency to continue testing of this new device.

The work was conducted by researchers Castejón Pedro Vera, Fernando Daniel Quesada Pereira y Alejandro Alvarez Melcón, Applied Electromagnetism Group on Telecommunications.

He has also participated as an inventor, researcher Telecommunications engineer Alfredo Parreno Marchante.
