The mayor congratulated the police and firefighters who competed in the Olympics in New York (27/09/2011)

The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, received this morning the three officers and three firefighters who participated in Cartagena the 14th edition of the Games World Police and Fire 2011, which took place from August 26 to September 5 in the city New York to mark the tenth anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers and World Trade Center.

The mayor received them in his office at the Palace Hall, accompanied by the Councillor for Citizen Security, Mariano García Asensio, the Director General of Security, Carlos Nieto, and fire chiefs, Francisco Gomez intervals, and local police, Manuel Asensio.

Cartagena representatives have returned with a gold medal and two bronzes and look forward to continue participating in these competitions that bring together more than 20,000 professionals from around the world. Finally, Barreiro has congratulated the three Cartagena Park Firefighters who attended the Olympics in New York: Juan Manuel Cespedes Diaz, who won the bronze medal in 110 meter hurdles, José Francisco Alarcón Conte, who reached the semifinals of Remo Indro, and Diego Alejandro Abellan Padilla, who reached the semifinals of the 100m dash and was in the 13th position of 30 participants.

The Olympics International Police and Fire are held every two years and the next meeting will be in 2013 in the city of Belfast Northern Ireland, but before another appointment will have to represent Spain and the Region of Murcia in the IV European Games that Police and Fire be held next year in Tenerife and the already begin to prepare.
