The navigation and the stars, at Fort Christmas (27/09/2011)

The Fort Christmas will be in the coming months leading to various activities organized by Cartagena Puerto de Culturas for this year's celebration of its tenth anniversary, cultural and recreational activities under the theme navigation and stars, will take place between 7 October and 13 November.

Councillor for Tourism, Palazón Carolina, and the Puerto de Culturas manager, Agustina Martinez, were in charge of these activities present today, starting with the photo exhibition Turning the past into the future, reflecting the process of restoring the Fort Christmas defensive battery as the first recovered from the bay of Cartagena, to become Interpretation Centre of defensive architecture of the city and the Mediterranean, also offering a viewpoint.

The focus of activities revolves around the exposure Navigation and the stars, a visit that will describe the art of navigation from the days when the stars came to guide the evolution of the different tools to navigate, as astrolabes, compasses, sextants, chronometers, supported by mapping of high artistic quality.

Fort Christmas will become a great ship of the nineteenth century, with the recreation of a bridge and its various instruments.

This exhibition has been provided by the Naval Museum in Cartagena.

On the other hand will be visited at night sailing under the stars. The Fort Christmas will become an observatory where you remember the art of navigating using the stars as a guide.

To do this, it has enjoyed the cooperation of members of the Astronomical Society of Cartagena, who will teach at the sky as they did centuries ago, the discoverers of new worlds.

It will be Friday night October 21 and November 11, departing at 20.30 hours.

As for leisure activities, more focused on children and families, including workshops and theatrical.
