Points adapted toilet on the beach served more than 400 people (02/09/2011)

The modules installed by the Red Cross Youth and the Municipal Services of the Coast, have received nearly twice as many users than expected and have been attended by more than twenty young volunteers throughout the summer

In total 427 people have benefited this summer points adapted toilet installed at several beaches on this coast by the Red Cross Youth and the City of Cartagena, through its Institute for Coastal Municipal Services (IMSEL).

This figure exceeds the forecast of volunteers expected to serve about 250 people.

From 1 July to 31 August, 22 young Red Cross volunteers, -12 boys and 10 girls, have worked to help people with disabilities to enjoy a safe swim.

For this they used two amphibious chairs for each module, adapted crutches, floats, life jackets, buoys and support.

In the accessible points are also installed a wooden walkway that was accessible to the beach.

The beaches that have received these points were on the beach accessible Loma del Castillo (Camping Caravaning) and La Gola (next to Hotel Cavanna in La Manga).

This last point was moved August 1st to the beach the Urbanización Puerto Bello to meet the demand of services in this area and improve restrooms amphibious chairs, which were proving complicated by the shallowness of the beach of La Gola .

Loma del Castillo Beach (Caravan) is where most bathrooms have been made, according to statistics gathered by Red Cross Youth.

In total, 338 bathrooms - 185 and 153 in July-August, while on the beach at Puerto Bello made ​​89 assisted bathrooms.

In addition, much of the users are vacationers from different parts of the region that have opted for the beach as a summer getaway to enjoy the adapted toilet.

At the same time, the Youth Red Cross volunteers have carried out an awareness campaign to swimmers under the motto "Love yourself this summer a lot."

During the campaign of prevention is to live have made ​​a total of 529 interventions, reporting on ways to prevent heat wave, and -434 interventions on environmental education interventions -95.

Among specific actions, have distributed leaflets in different languages, posters, ashtrays and even the beach to prevent the dumping of cigarette butts in the sand and the sea.

Also been reported to swimmers of the Red Cross campaigns for traffic during the operations of departure and return this summer.
