Public Safety Councilman Mariano Garcia explains that the decline in the number of swimmers rescued respond to preventive work of the staff of Civil Protection, to get swimmers to heed the flags and respect the instructions of the lifeguards.

In addition, Garcia recalled, Cartagena was a pioneer in implementing the new ordinance to rescue imposing sanctions beaches to swimmers who did not respect the prohibitions. This initiative has been successful and has been imitated in other cities such as Barcelona, says Councillor .

For the rest of incidents reported, there has also been a significant increase in cures and first aid, there have been 6805, while last year in the same period there were 4767.

Civil Protection has also recorded an increase in boat rescues, 40 this year compared to 15 last year.

This is because swimmers are increasingly turning to the posts of Civil Protection as a benchmark to meet any emergency, whether wounds, cuts, twists, insect bites and marine species, allergies or fainting, as explained by Councillor Public Safety, Mariano García.
