The temporal dragging of the beaches of La Manga and Mar Menor (03/05/2011)

Heavy rain and waves gave yesterday to tear up the preparatory work for the coming beach area by the Municipal Services of the Coast, which has already been put to work to replace and repair damaged infrastructure arena

The heavy storm of rain and waves that struck on Monday afternoon in the area of La Manga and the Mar Menor, mainly in the area of the Amoladeras, the Sirens, Cala del Pino and smaller islands, caused the large amount of drag sand, with the disappearance in some areas, up to a meter of beach.

This has also disrupted the work of preparation of the beaches, with a view to next summer, had been conducting the Municipal Services of the Coast, which had already begun to assemble the wooden gateways, the footbaths and other movable parts (remember that 90 percent of the infrastructure of the beaches in winter are disassembled and reassembled in summer).

The damage to municipal facilities were quantified between 6,000 and 10,000 euros, including the labor of the Institute.

Although only twenty-four hours of the storm, the director of INSEL, Gabriel Ruiz, has said already working to remedy the damage, replacing ramblizos for output of water.

Furthermore, in the coming days, coinciding with the Coastal Authority will start dredging the channel Marchamalo, the Institute will build on the sand to take out about 3,000 cubic meters, to extend on the beaches most affected by the storm.
