SPCT bid to create the council of Agriculture and Rural Development (28/04/2011)

The town of Cartagena has an area of 558.3 km2 and 85% of its land arable land.

At present about 15000 hectares are irrigated and 30,000 hectares are irrigated, which will employ about 18% of the population of our town and generating around 30% of local GDP.

These data are reason enough for Agriculture, livestock and rural areas are all in the next municipal organization, attention and representation they deserve.

In that sense from SPCT believe in creating a Department of Agriculture and Rural Development response to the needs of the primary sector.

The sector at all times has been forgotten Municipal support.

The town of Cartagena has lost cooperative agricultural facilities, agricultural processing companies, etc, the lack of municipal interest in solving land management issues for your location.

While it is true that municipal powers in agriculture are very limited, the fact remains that farmers and ranchers in Cartagena encounters many obstacles throughout the municipal administrative procedure, mainly related to environmental impact statements for new facilities , lacking our City a Department specialized in agriculture and livestock.

The lack of advice and support to the primary sector may lead to further delays in the commissioning of new facilities, and hence problems in creation of employment, a sharp dispute, especially when the next legislative development PORN outstanding and the delimitation of SPAs and SCIs will certainly cause conflicts in the affected areas.

In that sense, from SPCT, we focus on promoting the brand "Product of Cartagena" to encourage the City Council and in cooperation with professionals in the primary sector all horticultural and livestock products produced in our municipality.

Finally from SPCT we recall that the primary sector despite the economic crisis, is the country best supporting employment levels in this economic downturn.

The PP in the 16-year rule has only been able to streamline the management of the cooperative of Puebla "East-South", but many farmers in Miranda, the Albujón, Pozo Estrecho, etc, were in their day to settle in the Jimenado, specifically on Hill 120, to try is through agricultural cooperatives, market their products.
