González Tovar presents the new Chief Commissioner of Cartagena (25/04/2011)

The staff of the Commissioner of Cartagena is composed of 307 agents, 68 percent more than in 2004

The Delegate of the Government in the Region of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, and the Police Commissioner, Carlos Llorente, presented this morning the new Chief Commissioner of Cartagena, Alfonso Navarro Lopez in a ceremony held at the headquarters of the local police station of this town, which has benefited from the presence of the authorities of the Security Forces, municipal and representatives of various organizations of the city department.

In his presentation, Deputy Government wanted the best professional success to the new Commissioner and congratulated the National Police of the Region of Murcia by increasing professional effectiveness, evidenced by the significant increase in the number of crimes solved and of detainees in recent years.

She said that the crime rate in the Region of Murcia is 5.6 points below average and is more than 28 points below the average crime rate of the European Union.

In this sense, González Tovar said that "The Region of Murcia is one of the safest regions of Spain, the Mediterranean Basin and the European Union."

Also had words of praise for the work done in front of the police station the previous Chief Commissioner Cartagena, José María García Martínez, whose career has recalled the many successes in its fight against drug trafficking and all crimes against public safety.

González Tovar has valued the excellent police work of the agents of the Commissioner of Cartagena and explained that in 2010, 2,281 crimes were reported in the area of ​​the National Police, 10.2 percent less than last year.

At the same time, the number of crimes solved by 5 percent and held at 1.6 percent.

Thus, the rate of police efficiency increased by 4 percent.

In connection with this, the Government Delegate has pointed out that the Government of Spain is working hard to improve the facilities and professional templates of the National Police.

In this sense, gave as example that in December 2009 completed the full refurbishment of the Cartagena Station for an amount close to three million euros and that the current staffing of the station is 307 officers, 68 percent higher than existed in 2004.

"The increased investment in staff and investment in new infrastructure for state security in the region show, the delegate stated commitment of the Government of Spain for the public safety of everyone in our community."

Biographical

Alfonso Navarro Lopez is 53 years old, has a degree in criminology and has taught at the School of Legal Practice at the University of Murcia.

He joined the Superior Police Corps in 1980, taking his first assignment in the Police Headquarters in Catalonia.

There he performed his duties as head of the groups of violent robberies and crimes against life and sexual freedom until 1996 when he moved to the Police Headquarters of Murcia.

In 1999 he took over the direction of the Robbery-Homicide Group, until in 2002 rose to the rank of chief inspector and was appointed section head of Specialist Crime Unit and Violent Murcia.

In 2007 he was appointed head of the local police station in Lorca, where he remained until 2008, when he ascended to the rank of Commissioner of National Police Force and was assigned to the Police Station of Almería, where he served as chief Territorial Operations Coordination Unit to date.

During his career he has been awarded numerous public congratulations and has been awarded the Police Merit Cross with Red Badge and Police Merit Cross with White Distinction.
