The City Council is committed to energy planning towards the Environment (13/04/2011)

Cartagena City Council attended the 7th and 8th April at the International Conference on Local Energy Plans (PAES), which was held in Murcia, organized by the Agency for Energy Management in the Region of Murcia (ARGEM) and had the aim to influence the environmental significance, economic and social development of local energy planning.

As the municipalities play a key role in reducing energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases, the idea was that the conference would highlight the opportunities that government and businesses have at their disposal to reduce consumption energy and current expenditures, while improving the quality of life of people, cares for the environment and generate business opportunities.

In this sense, local corporations are actively involved in the definition of energy policy at both national and European level and also with the signing of the Covenant of Mayors, the City makes a commitment to the European Commission to reduce its emissions at least 20 percent by 2020.

Among the thematic areas of the conference addressed the sustainable mobility, especially in the bicycle as a vehicle for sustainable energy, according to the various speeches in which he was cited as the Sustainable Mobility reducing fossil fuel consumption in urban environments.

Remember that on the 1st of April, celebrated the act of ratification of the accession of the 45 municipalities of the Autonomous Community of Murcia to the Covenant of Mayors, making it the first region in which all municipalities join this European Commission initiative to achieve the reduction of CO2 emissions in the territorial scope.
