VII winners Chess Tournament Intercentros raise their trophies (10/02/2011)

Jaime Garcia, IES Ben Arabi, and Emilio Lopez, the IES Los Molinos, were the winners in junior class and individual cadet, respectively, while teams, the winners were Jose Maria Lapuerta school and IES Los Molinos A

Councillor for Youth of the City of Cartagena, Ruth Collins, has been commissioned to make today's delivery of the prizes to the winners of the 7 th edition of the tournament Intercentros Chess which was held on 9 and 10 February at the IES The Molinos.

In the same 66 students have participated in five centers in the region (CEIP José María de Lapuerta, Ben Arabi IES, IES Mediterranean, Our Lady of Carmen of the Union, and the IES Los Molinos).

As the competition has evolved into two categories: Children, formed by students of primary and 1st cycle of ESO, which was attended by 38 participants, and Cadet, formed by students of 2 nd cycle Secondary school in who participated 26.

After completion of the 6 rounds of 40 minutes each in the day, finished the tournament being the winners:

Both the Youth Council, through the IDEAS program, such as Chess Federation of Murcia supporting this event since its inception.

The goal of the tournament is to promote interest in the sport among students in Cartagena and its surroundings, therefore not confined to secondary schools, but it seemed important to extend also to primary schools to encourage younger students, who are the youth of this event.

Usually, the tournament is usually held for two consecutive days, in which, besides playing chess, students have the opportunity to meet or reconnect with students from different schools that are participating in previous editions.

Youth Councillor, Ruth Collins, stressed during his speech the importance of the participation of children and youth in such activities in which they always work and will join this council.
