Our seniors are introduced into new technologies (25/01/2011)

About 30 students have started courses in Introduction to Advanced Computing and organized by the Municipal Institute of Social Services where, in addition to computers, they learn that age is no limitation

Because being retired does not mean to stand, the Department of Social Affairs of the City of Cartagena has been proposed fuel the vitality of older people, whose desire to excel and willingness to learn is limitless.

Along with activities such as gymnastics training energy and memory, Municipal Institute of Social Services has set up computer courses for older people training in new technologies.

About 30 seniors, in two groups of 15, have started yesterday and this morning classes II Computer Course for Senior Level and the Course of Introduction to Computers, which are held in the building of the Miraculous, until on 23 February and 10 March respectively.

Most retirees, of between 65 and 80, take notes, raise their hands to ask questions, and not lose detail of the teacher's words.

These senior students have found a new impetus to not disengage from a society increasingly dependent on new technologies.

For a month can learn from the basics: how to turn on and off the computer, up to an advanced level to surf the Internet, use e-mail or manage modern software such as Photoshop, and although they have many questions we always try to adjust the level to the needs of each person, as law professor Frank Pando.

To practice on their own computers after school, some students and Mari Carmen Gómez, Cartagena 76, take notes without stopping so that the memory does not fail to get home.

The course is being used to communicate with their children, grandchildren and friends living abroad, but also learn to connect to the Internet, other students like Luis Costa, 73, looking at the computer supplement his hobbies as drawing, photography or video recording software.

The main objective of these courses over Program is to provide basic knowledge in computer management, and have access to new technologies, knowledge and use different tools.

But besides these opportunities for participation are a way of sharing experiences with other people who keep their same concerns, and where in addition to computers, learn that age is not a limitation.

Computer Course Level II will be held until 23 February, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9.30 to 11.30 hours in the computer room of the building of the Miraculous.

And the Course Introduction to Computers, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9.30 to 11.00, from 25 January to 10 March.
