Development tender for 1.4 million euros a blueprint of the arterial network rail Cartagena (23/12/2010)

The work to be performed on a set of 1.1 kilometers, include the adequacy of rail access to high speed and the rehabilitation of the station, to allow high-speed entry into the city and urban environment improvement

The Government delegate, Rafael González Tovar, today announced that the Ministry of Development, through ADIF, has tendered the contract for the drafting of the basic design of the platform via Arterial Network Rail in the city of Cartagena, permit the entry of high-speed and urban environment improvement.

González Tovar added that the contract is tendered a necessary step for the subsequent procurement phase of construction of the Red Blood Railway (RAF) from Cartagena, and refers to the provision of services for the drafting of the platform core in the studies referred to information already completed by the Ministry of Development.

The total amount of the tender, published in the Official Gazette, amounted to 1.4 billion euros (VAT included), and includes the development of that basic design platform crossings, while ensuring the protection of the environment and establishing the necessary corrective measures.

The contract is funded by the Company Cartagena High Speed, created following the agreements signed between the Ministry of Development, Government of the Region of Murcia, ADIF and the city of Cartagena, for remodeling of the arterial network Cartagena Railway.

Blood Red Cartagena Railway

The agreement of the Company Cartagena High Speed Rail Network Cartagena Arterial contemplates a path of 1.1 km, ranging from the current 502/000 pk online Chinchilla-Cartagena, until arrival at the station.

The Government delegate pointed out that among the most important activities are planned as follows:

• Adaptation of rail access to the arrival of the railway corridor to the parameters and high-speed services.

• Remodeling of the present railway station Cartagena, depression of the beach roads, adaptation to underground rail corridor and improving accessibility.

We define a new configuration of the season with two distinct areas:

- An area consisting of 4 tracks and platforms of 200 meters in length.

- A zone parallel to the previous 2-way and a platform 400 meters in length.

The route will pass through the same place of the present railway line, buried over 1,130 m.

(762 m and 368 m covered ramps) This will need to project a variant and a temporary station in order to maintain the existing rail traffic, which will not be affected during the construction phase.

European funding

Within the Community Support Framework 2000-2006, the total aid granted by the European Union's new High Speed Line Madrid-Castilla La Mancha-Valencia-Murcia region reached EUR 575 million euros from the Fund Cohesion, 125 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and 48 million euros from TEN-T funds.

For 2007-2013, the Cohesion Fund within the Cohesion Fund Operational Programme 2007-2013 ERDF co-part of the online platform with 726 million euros.

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Operational Programme of Valencia 2007-2013 stretch platform co-Limit Elche Murcia and the installation of track and facilities Xativa-Valencia section with 160 million euros.

Also, Operational Programmes of Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia 2007-2013 and 2007-2013 co-financed by various sections of the platform and the supply and installation of track and facilities for an amount of 249 euros and 68 million respectively.

The European Investment Bank also participates in the financing of this project.
