Parks and Gardens organizes an informative talk on the red palm weevil (19/11/2010)

Given the ongoing public consultations that on the red palm weevil pest have been receiving in the city of Cartagena, the Municipal Services Parks and Gardens has organized an informative talk in which researchers from the Institute Ramon Margalef, University of Alicante guide on visual detection of symptoms and the protocol of action against this plague that is affecting the palms of the Mediterranean.

The talk aimed at professionals and college students who study these new diseases, will be held on Monday, November 22, at 11 am, at the Salon de Grados of the School of Agricultural Engineering in the ride Alfonso XIII, in the Department of Plant Production at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

The plate of red palm weevil is becoming one of the most virulent in recent times.

Since its inception, the disease has had an inexorable progress: not an effective treatment to 100 percent.

Between 2006, when the first cases were reported until December 31, 2009, is estimated to have disappeared for this reason some 1,200 palm trees of Cartagena in the town.
