The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, was on Sunday in Valladolid to collect the prize AR & PA Intervention in Historical, awarded by the Junta de Castilla y León, which has distinguished the city of Cartagena by the process of urban redevelopment that has followed, based on the recovery of urban and architectural heritage of the city accumulated over the centuries.
Barreiro acknowledged with pride and on behalf of all the winners receiving the award, which places value concerted institutional effort that has allowed the recovery of their valuable and vital regeneration of the city, with the enhancement of archaeological sites such as the Teatro Romano, the rehabilitation of hundreds of facades and the pedestrian old town.
Next to Cartagena, have also been awarded the restoration of the Monastery of Santa Clara Velha in Coimbra in the international section, the design and construction of rehabilitation of the former convent of Santo Tomas in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) for use as Parador National Tourism at the national level, the City Council and neighbors in Ávila Gotarrendura, at the regional level, and the philanthropist Javier Cortes à lvarez de Miranda, posthumously.
The award ceremony took place at the close of Economics International Congress of Cultural Heritage within the Seventh Biennial Heritage Restoration and Management, AR & PA 2010 which was held in Valladolid.
In this award, we must add other honors he has received recently the city, such as the Europa Nostra prize, awarded by the Council of Europe for the recovery of the Roman Theatre and Heritage Award of Alcala de Henares, which will be delivered Thursday December 2, the day that celebrates its tenth Alcalá second anniversary since it was named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
