"Cheers", the new album from Howe Gelb & A Band of Gypsies not sound like nothing you've heard before.

While maintaining the familiar taste of the Arizona desert that Howe has been cultivated over the years, both solo and with Giant Sand, their sound takes on new shades to blend with the beats of flamenco.

In this album, which brings the Cartagena Jazz Festival, Howe explores uncharted territory somewhere between American roots rock, southern and border, and the purest flamenco.

Doing a bit of memory, the years spent in the desert Howe, the only three bands he heard in his car were: Tom Waits, Miles Davis and Tomatito.

Many years later, an unexpected combination of chance and destiny being transported to southern Spain, specifically to Cordoba.

He found the perfect atmosphere to start your new project with Fernando Vacas (Flow, Prin La Lá).

Echoes of Tomatito and passion that inspired the American Cordoba, were some of the other disk.

Accompanied by musicians Cordoba between those who are regular contributors like Lin Raimundo Amador Cortes (guitar), Juan Panki (guitar) or Indigo Fernandez (cajon), the album started taking shape in endless trials.

Gelb's voice instantly seduced by the Andalusian musicians and after several meetings, Gelb began writing the first letters of the album, inspired by the intensity of the sessions.

In closing, the emergence of self Raimundo Amador, who will also be at the festival, I decided to join the project with his touch and inimitable virtuoso that musicians have already benefited the likes of Björk or BB King.

Finished the album, Giant Sand leader suggested the collaboration of his friend John Parish, English musician and producer, known for his work with PJ Harvey.

The result is an album that retains the flavor of the two traditions merged, trails Southern roots of both sides of the Atlantic, while discovering a new and unique way of interpreting them.

"As Tony Zenet Music has enormous power to evoke. Whoever brings the legacy of the bolero, tango's vein, the spell flamenco, swing vacilón and jazz. All this comes in the pit of your hard China Seas. But Zenet style is not pure, of orthodoxy through and through, but the mixture of alchemy, the disparate ingredients cook in their musical works as a pocket watch, old but accurate. Zenet life sounds normal, a small little apartment, a full stack of pots to scrub, a warm love trying to save strokes on the basis of all the difficulties that life presents us with the smile of those who know that this way in the world is a com / is not "well defined Zenet Fernando Martín, a crooner Andalusian certainly is experiencing its most beautiful artistic moment.

Zenet is a showman, actor, dancer, mime, stage meat enjoys doing tricks with his hat, dancing the solos, that sways with the public, which calls for large scenarios track, although it enjoys in the Tête à Tête acoustic shows.

His record and the impact it has managed to say it loudly.

But he does not care.

Smoke your cigar and drinking beer in the usual place, knowing that the "water lift" comes and goes without warning.

The musical background comes from a childhood Tony Andalusian traveler and lived life.

It Malaga and flamenco has always very close.

His mother sang as an amateur, "but my parents were also very modern and in my house I heard a lot of Beatles, Sinatra, Chet Baker ... My mental music files tend to seek common and melodies of nature mixed with my roots that is funny "he said in a recent interview.

More so when the bank completes Zenet two fundamental legs: José Taboada guitar and a lyricist who knows how to put on paper the stories of love sweaty how well you are going to Tony: Javier Laguna.

Their music blends exquisitely bolero, jazz, swing, flamenco ... His songs were heard on television series, in movies ... and now come to Cartagena Jazz Festival.
