The mayor of Alcala de Henares, Bartolomé González, announced yesterday the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, Cartagena granting World Heritage Award, for his efforts to recover the historical legacy and its integration into the urban fabric.
In this way, the awards jury unanimously voted for the proposal of Department of Ancient History at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
This award, which was established following the appointment of Alcalá as a World Heritage Site by Unesco, has been granted previously to Tarragona and Guanajuato, Mexico. The prize will be presented on Thursday 2 December, the day that celebrates Alcalá its twelfth anniversary since being named a UNESCO World Heritage City.
The mayor thanked the granting of the award and its importance has been assessed as coming from a city issue involving property and have been the result of the unanimous decision of a jury with the participation of specialists in restoration and management of historic resources.
Barreiro pointed out that this is the third award that Cartagena receives in a single year for his work on the recovery of historical heritage and thus are evaluating the quality of work specialists who have worked on city projects and government efforts that have led.
In the winner of the city is also the Europa Nostra award granted by the Council of Europe for the recovery of the Roman Theatre.
In addition, this same weekend, on Sunday, the mayor stated in Valladolid AR & PA award, awards, art and heritage that gives the board of Castilla and León people and institutions who excel in this field.
