The local police control the use of saddles and seat belts at the entrance and exit of schools (05/10/2010)

Since yesterday, Monday October 4, the strength of the local police near Cartagena monitor schools in order that children under 12 years correctly used restraint when traveling in vehicles.

This campaign, in development under the title Al Cole Car, since mid-September, has changed phase.

During the first 15 days, the campaign has been informative, to make known primarily for parents of restraint to be used, according to law.

It is approved specific saddles that vary by age of the child.

The saddle should be used in any case where the under 12 measures less than 1.35 meters or weigh 35 kilos.

Above these values parents should take children to the seat belt.

In collaboration with car dealerships and malls Eroski and Carrefour have provided information for this campaign to their client and have offered special discounts when buying saddles approved.

In the second half, which started Monday, officers have gone to a penalty phase, in which two pairs of agents to stop vehicles traveling with minors and out of schools and check if used properly restrained by punishing non-compliance with fines up to $ 200.

According to data from the Traffic Department, 50 percent of children under 14 years who died last year in Spain was due to road accidents, and 75 percent of cases these deaths could have been avoided with the use of seat belts.
