The Region is committed to the implementation of the single card in the use of public transport (20/09/2010)

On Friday I met at the Sustainable Mobility Seminar held in Cartagena, members of the main public transportation entities in the Region of Murcia, which released some of the more than 100 projects being developed in order make public transport more attractive and thus encourage their use.

One of these actions is the implementation of the single card, which can be used in all regional public transportation services, extending their use to other areas such as sports activities, booking of facilities, libraries or any other service that needs identification citizen.

It is a credit card, but for these other uses can be recharged like a cash card at ATMs, online and even via mobile phone.

This service aims to avoid having to carry a card for each service, unifying them all under a single card.

For its implementation are needed before a series of actions aimed at simplifying and integrating the rates of different modes of transport.

In a first phase, will be installed in the city of Murcia, to be extended to Cartagena, metropolitan areas, and thus progressively roll-out across the region.

During the conference it was announced that a deal is already on the table between the main entities, LVEF, RENFE, Tram Murcia Regional Government and Public Transport Authority, to begin arrangements for the implementation of this scheme is working at the Universities of Murcia and Cartagena in the name of UNIBON.

Other innovative programs are being implemented to improve public transport are the SMS BUS system through which citizens can learn through a text message when the next bus to pass by that station, frequency, or lines passing through it.

Also be put in place surveillance systems and wireless video board.

The key themes that closed the conference was the implementation of the Tram Line 1 of Murcia, which is scheduled for March 2011 and the success of the pedestrian in the town of Cartagena, who presented the council for Infrastructure and Tourism José Vicente Albaladejo, Javier Herrero.

Both stressed that the fact of opening the port, the entrance to the city, and pedestrianize the axis that runs from Plaza of Spain to the port, has had an impact on the very positive economic fabric.

This building has been an increase in pedestrian areas and leisure in the city.

It is working for more than 20,000 square meters in Cartagena waterfront area Arqua and Auditorium.

Albaladejo announced that it is considering extending the pedestrian zone in the old town street Campos, Jara, Air, Cannon, Prince of Vergara and General Ordonez. This means savings for the municipality to avoid having to change the pavement of these streets is in poor condition, since that does not pass the car.

For his part, Javier Herrero highlighted the more touristy side, with real data the increase in cruise ships, which have risen from just over 20 to 75 in the last year. Malls sometimes attempt to reproduce the environment of a historic and here in Cartagena, we have little space in a major concentration of resources, which pedestrianized, we can exploit.

The conference ended with the presentation of plans for accessibility of the Region of Murcia, in general, and Cartagena, in particular, as well as mobility schemes in industrial areas such as tailings and Cabezo Beaza.

Responsible for the closure was the council for Sustainable Development, Camarzana Isaiah, who says that this conference will serve as a reference when making future actions.
