No trace of the old railroad district of Pearl (27/08/2010)

The works to convert the former railway track passing through the Barrio de Peral in a greenway cyclable progressing as planned.

Has already been covered about 50,000 cubic meters the old trench that separates the neighborhoods of the four hundred and Los Barreros the Barrio de Peral, bringing the same level as the streets of these neighborhoods, and slopes are removed Mandarache zone.

To end this first phase of grading and earthwork, remains the elimination of the pedestrian bridge Fuendetodos Street, which has been delayed because it was used by telephone companies to deploy their services between each bank of the former path and has been necessary to agree with them diversion.

From now works focus on the construction of a stormwater line about 800 meters long that is responsible for collecting rain water along the greenway.

Similarly, in the coming days, the company will begin to execute the development works in the area closest to the mall Mandarache, with the placement of curb and channeling of lighting services.

As you may recall, the works were started in late June, with 1.5 million euros.

This is one of the project considered by the Second Star of Cartagena E Plan, along with the windlass Archaeological Park, and has a lead time of about eight months.

The winning company is Eals.

One of the main virtues of this project is to eliminate the current physical barrier that separates the neighborhoods of Pearl with The Four Barriers and Santos, with a length of about two miles, to make it ride adapted for use by pedestrians and bicycles.

The construction of this greenway is one of the old claims of the residents of the neighborhoods involved, which led to the efforts undertaken by the City Council with ADIF to reach an agreement on exchange of land in the old layout.

The resulting ride will start at the same level of the Rotunda of the barrier and with a gentle slope down to go down neighborhood near the Mall Mandarache, eliminating the physical barrier of separation between the three neighborhoods and allowing a total pedestrian permeability between both kinds hitherto not possible by the old railway line trench.
