The beach of San Ginés regains its blue flag after the construction of sewage (12/07/2010)

The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, accompanied by the council for Infrastructure, Tourism and Neighborhood Relations, José Vicente Albaladejo, Javier Herrero and Nicholas Angel Bernal, respectively, and the director of the Coastal Services Institute, Gabriel Ruiz, has raised this morning Blue Flag awarded beach of San Ginés in La Azohía.

The formal ceremony is intended to make separately from the rest of distinctive quality given to the Cartagena beaches because of its special significance as it is the recovery of the blue flag from a beach on the west side of town which had been withdrawn because of problems in the purification of wastewater.

Precisely this has been one of the events that highlighted the mayor: the investment of some 2.5 million euros which included not only the construction and operation of a plant, but all the additional works required to achieve discharge zero in this part of the coast of Cartagena.

Barreiro added that the recovery of the blue flag has also contributed to the improvement of services in the area, including checkpoints on beaches and manning of an ambulance to respond to emergencies.

On Monday, July 5, the mayor raised in Playa Honda's first of the 17 indications of quality (7 and 10 blue flags quality Q) given to the Cartagena beaches by the European Foundation of Environmental Education and the Institute of Quality Tourism, Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

The quality Q have been granted: a Cala Cortina, Minor Outlying Islands, Playa Honda, Mar de Cristal, Cala del Pino, Cavanna Beach, Playa del Barco Perdido, Galúa Beach, Playa de Levante and Playa de la Gola, while Blue Flags are awarded to Mar de Cristal, Levante-Cabo de Palos, Cala Cortina, Cala del Pino, Islas Menores and Playa Honda San Ginés in La Azohía.

They must add the special character Blue Flag awarded to Surveillance and Rescue Service in the City of Cartagena's beaches.
