The Government Board approves the inclusion of the La Palma line in urban public transport (27/04/2018)

The Local Government Board, meeting on an extraordinary basis, under the presidency of the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, today approved the inclusion of Cartagena-La Palma traffic and vice versa on line number 24 from Cartagena to Pozo Estrecho, within the regular urban public transport network by road.

The agreement is part of the efforts made by the municipal government to recover and legalize the existing communication between the deputation and the city, which will have a total of 13 daily services, as pointed out by the Councilor for Municipal Services, Juan Pedro Torralba .

A few days ago, the City Council obtained a favorable report from the Ministry of Public Works so that through its concessionaire, it could provide the Cartagena-La Palma public transport service through an urban transport line.

The problem had arisen as a result of the change of the concessionaire that provided the service between Cartagena and Alicante, which had a stop in La Palma and with which a verbal agreement had been reached years ago for the company ALSA to do direct services between La Palma and Cartagena, through its line with Pozo Estrecho.

This agreement was not taken over by the new concessionaire, Globalia, and ALSA stopped providing the service in La Palma, generating problems for the residents of the area, which saw their frequency reduced considerably.

Faced with this situation, the Department of Public Services decided to seek a definitive solution to the problem and ensure the neighbors the best service.

For this reason, Juan Pedro Torralba went to the Ministry of Development, specifically to the General Secretary of Transportation, requesting that it authorize an urban transport line to provide traffic between Cartagena and La Palma, which it has finally achieved.

The agreement of the Governing Board must now be sent to the Autonomous Community to give its approval, so it is expected that the service may come into operation soon.

MULTI-YEAR SPENDING FOR TOILETS AND CHANGERS IN THE BEACHES

The Governing Board has also approved today a multi-year cost of about 208 thousand euros for the contracting of the placement and cleaning service of chemical toilets and changing modules, both accessible, as well as the transportation, installation and cleaning of municipal property in the littoral, between June 15 and September 17, 2018 and 2019.

Specifically, there are 16 accessible chemical toilets that will be located on the beaches with quality Q badges or blue flags such as Cala Cortina, Levante Beach, Plana Island, Entremares, Galúa, Cavanna, La Gola, Playa Paraíso, Mar de Cristal and Minor Island;

3 toilet modules with accessible changing table or accessible changing rooms with chemical toilets that will be installed on beaches with a distinctive quality or assisted bathroom areas for people with disabilities;

12 chemical toilets accessible in other beaches of the municipality, such as Calblanque, Los Nietos, Los Urrutias, Punta Brava, Zohia and Cala Reona;

3 accessible toilet modules with accessible changing table or accessible changing rooms with chemical toilets that will be installed on other beaches without distinctive;

and four double modules and one individual equipped with accessible clothes or toilets.
