Over 14 regattas and 16 events scheduled in the 2018 Latin Candle Calendar (17/04/2018)

The first tests of the Latin sail calendar for class 21 palmos begin next Saturday April 28 with the opening trophy and continue until October with more than 14 races and 16 scheduled races.

The Councilor for Sports, Obdulia Gómez Bernal, was in charge of presenting the 2018 Latin sail calendar, along with the president of the Santa Lucía Nautical Club, Diego Valera;

the president of the Sailing Federation, Arturo García;

the Latin sailing vocalist of the Club Náutico de Santa Lucía, Javier Martínez;

and the classic and Latin sailing vowel of the Sailing Federation of the Region of Murcia, Emilio Gil.

The mayor of Sports, has pointed out the importance that the Latin sail has as "school of transmission of trades and traditional knowledge for the construction of this type of boats and their management", has also indicated the new dimension that acquires this sport after being proclaimed as a Property of Intangible Cultural Interest of the Region of Murcia.

The Nautical Club of Santa Lucia is one of the main promoters of sport in this modality, through its work they help to maintain the traditions and values ​​in this area.

Its president, Diego Valera, was in charge of presenting the novelties introduced in this edition of the calendar of the class of 21 palms.

Valera has indicated that in the composition of the programming "they have bet to be faithful to the commitment that the Nautical Club of Santa Lucia has acquired to collect and keep alive this type of traditional navigation".

It presents as a great novelty the change in the organization of the Princess of Asturias regatta, which on this occasion, for the first time is taken over by the navy regattas commission.

It is expected that this regatta will take place on October 14, the date next to October 12, the day of Hispanidad.

On the occasion of the declaration of the Latin sail as a good of cultural interest, a series of conferences have been organized to be held in the Naval Museum during the next months and in which everything related to the history of this sport will be discussed.

On the other hand, the Carabela de Plata trophy, sponsored by the City of Cartagena, is the main title of the calendar for class 21 palmos.

This trophy proclaims champion of the regularity to the boat with the best score during the whole season.

On this occasion it is expected that there will be a participation as high as last year, in which the calendar played 12 boats.

In addition, this category is one of the largest number of scheduled tests has throughout the season, as noted by the Latin sailing vocal Club Nautico de Santa Lucia, Javier Martinez.

The Councilor for Sports, Obdulia Gómez, has encouraged all Cartagena to know the Latin sail and enjoy this sport native to the Levante area and has great prominence in Cartagena.
